Pre-conference
PhD workshop 1 Dec 2021: Diversity and Dialogue – Indigenous and transnational engagements
The workshop is a pre-conference event arranged on 1 December 2021 at 13-18 in conjunction with the annual interdisciplinary and international ETMU conference. The participants may choose to attend the workshop virtually or face-to-face at the University of Oulu. An unofficial get-together will be arranged with all the face-to-face participants in Oulu.
The purpose of the workshop is to create a space for the PhD researchers to discuss their research with senior scholars:
Lucy Mayblin, Senior Lecturer in Sociology (University of Sheffield, Department of Sociological Studies)
Nick Baron, Associate Professor in History (University of Nottingham, History Department)
Rauna Kuokkanen, Research Professor of Arctic Indigenous Studies (University of Lapland, Faculty of Social Sciences, Global Northern Societies, Sami research)
This year the pre-conference workshop focuses on indigenous and transnational engagements, welcoming presentations and questions regarding these themes from the viewpoint of critical studies on migration, minorities, and indigenous peoples. We especially encourage PhD researchers to submit papers on research methodologies. The number of papers is limited, but you may also participate without a paper. In the pre-conference workshop, the participants can either present their own research and receive feedback from the teachers and other participants or send specific questions to be discussed at the workshop. The questions asked are sent via the submission and registration form and should be related to the participants’ own research topic and concern different methodological approaches or ethical issues. The participants can receive 1-2 ETCS from the workshop, depending on their level of involvement.
The workshop participation is free of charge. You can register to the workshop, submit your abstract and/or questions by following this link: https://forms.gle/J9AgqLj3XAA9pYATA by 8.10.2021. The papers for the workshop will be selected and the presenters contacted by 22.10.2021. Also, other participants will receive their acceptance letters at the same time.
